This is a simple rowing skiff for crossings and fishing designed by Michael Storer. To provide room for fishing equipment and keep the rowing simple there are no rowing outriggers fitted. It is a light boat that rows quickly and easily. The boat is designed to be rowed alone or by a rower with one adult passenger in the stern.
This boat is loosely based upon the Goat Island Skiff but the wetted surface has been reduced by narrowing the width of the bottom throughout particularly at the stern. The gunwale width has been retained to provide a sturdy base for the oars. Eight foot oars are recommended for maximum efficiency.
Four sheets of 6 mm okoume plywood are used building the boat which has chine logs and frames but is built using epoxy and glass tape.
The kit includes:
This option contains only the plywood components pre-cut to the correct size with pre-cut joints plus the building manual.
The 51-page A4 plans for the MSD Rowing Skiff are more like a book or a boatbuilding course. They contain detailed information on each building step, including how to join the plywood, mark the shapes of the panels and use the epoxy.
The plans are in PDF format that can be viewed using Adobe Reader. After credit card authorisation the file will be sent to the email address put on the order form.
