Eastport
Pram
A lot of sailors
use dinghies to ferry to and from their boats.
Most are inflatables with loud outboard motors
spewing clouds of blue smoke. Of course, most
inflatables row so poorly that you'd want an
outboard even to go 100 yards. Whatever happened
to those able little wooden dinghies that rowed
so well that you couldn't be bothered with an
engine? This dinghy is designed to be one: it is
pretty, light, tough, roomy, and easy to build.
The Eastport Pram, is just 7' 9" long and 48"
wide, but will hold about 500 pounds. She's built
from 6mm okoume (African Mahogany) using the
LapStitch™ method so that it resembles
clinker. The finished boat looks like it was
built by a seasoned craftsman, but it will take a
novice only about 50 hours to assemble the Pram.
The
Eastport Pram, with optional sailing rig, also
makes a fine sail trainer. Tiny responsive boats
offer immediate feedback and give sailors
tremendous confidence in predicting how any boat
will behave. Numerous great sailors have pointed
out that you'll learn more about sailing in a few
days in a dinghy than in years of "cruising"
in big boats. Many "big boat" sailors
still get nervous sailing up to a dock or
manoeuvring through a crowded harbour without an
engine. These are the very skills that are
improved in tiny boats. Of course, improving
sailing skills is not the only reason to sail a
dinghy; charging around in the Eastport Pram is
just plain fun. The Pram has been designed with a
strengthened hull and longer skeg to make it
ideal for towing as a tender.
The pram would
also make a great first boat building project, a
wonderful fishing boat for a pond or small lake,
or a child's first boat.

John's
Sharpie
John's Sharpie is
based on the design of an old New England work
boat, updated to provide an 18 foot boat that is
a spirited day sailer and an able camp cruiser.
Its stitch-and-glue construction produces a
lightweight hull, while the two cockpit design
adds strength, stiffness and provides seating for
up to 4 adults. Since the Sharpie uses a
daggerboard, it is easily beached and, if fitted
with boom tents, it can comfortably camp-cruise
for two. The cat ketch rig is fast to set up and
easy to sail - tacking requires only a push of
the tiller.

Jimmy
Skiff
The Jimmy Skiff
is a modern adaptation of an age old design. Our
skiff sails and motors as well as it rows and can
accommodate a family of four. Due to its
lightweight construction, it can easily be
carried on your car top or hoisted onto the deck
of a larger boat. It readily accepts a small
outboard motor, and sails like a dream when
fitted with her leg-o-mutton sail. The basic kit
includes everything you need to outfit her as a
rowboat or motorboat. The optional sail kit
includes the mast, sprit boom, dagger board and
case, and rudder and tiller.

GP
Fourteen Series 2
The original GP14
was designed by Jack Holt 50 years ago. Developed
as a general purpose dinghy, the GP14 immediately
became popular with the day sailor, the cruiser
and the serious racer. The current design, the
Series II, was adopted in 1994 and features in-built
buoyancy compartments. Even today, the GP14
remains one of the most popular Classes in the
world - there are over 300 clubs that have
adopted it for class racing.
