Product Description

Wood Duck recreational kayaks with a strip deck.

Roomy for fishing.

JH

The Wood Duck Hybrid hull is identical to the standard Wood Duck kayak. There is plenty of opportunity to express your artistic side with the patterns. Moulds or temporary bulkheads are set into the hull at various stations and used to support the deck as it is assembled from strip cedar. Once the deck is assembled it is removed, the moulds discarded, and then replaced permanently. The top of the deck is then glassed and epoxy coated for protection.

The Wood Duck 10 will carry paddlers who weigh up to 200 pounds and still have a good turn of speed. The Wood Duck 12 will carry more load.

Unlike our other boats, the Wood Duck has no forward bulkhead, therefore use of a bouyancy bag is strongly recommended.

Kit

The kit contains computer-cut Okoume panels assembled with ‘puzzle’ joints so it goes together very quickly. The temporary bulkheads are pre-cut to the correct size to support the deck. Included with the kit is a mixture of dark and medium colour western red cedar strips, plus white cedar strips for light accents. The strips are milled with a ‘bead and cove’ joint so that one slides into the next for a perfect fit. While we offer suggested patterns, each builder can develop their own unique strip deck design as they assemble their kit. Run riot with your creativity!

The kits comprise:

  • Pre-cut wooden panels with pre-cut joints and pre-drilled tie holes
  • Pre-cut temporary bulkheads
  • A mixture of machined white and red cedar
  • Waterproof glue for the cedar strips
  • Epoxy resin
  • Epoxy activator
  • Epoxy fillers
  • Copper ties
  • Woven glass fabric
  • Fabric covered foam seat
  • Backband
  • Adjustable footbraces
  • Construction manual
  • Free technical support from a competent builder

Plans and Manual (Not required by kit purchasers)

These plans and manual contain sufficient information on the cutting of the panels to make it possible to build the boat from scratch rather than a kit. The plans include full size drawings.

Wood

This option contains only the building manual and pre-cut wooden parts including the temporary bulkheads, but does not include the cedar strips or the other items listed above as being in the full kit. This option is for those wanting to obtain the other materials needed to build the boat from other sources.

Cedar Strips

As well as the forms and strongback, 125 m of Bead-and-cove cedar strips, as contained in the full kit, will be sufficient to deck either a Wood Duck 10 or 12.

Non-Wood

This option contains the non wood items needed to build the boat. This option does not contain the plans or manual.
