Known by some as a ‘magic carpet’, this 8-foot mini-tanker was designed for a small-statured long-boarder that wanted a catch-anything, full-volume longboard experience in a size he could manoeuvre easily. The Steamer has a classic long-board nose in an eight-foot package. This board carries it's thickness far forward, offsetting a super-wide squash tail that virtually guarantees you'll catch every wave you paddle for. While it's perfect for beginner surfers, it also makes a great big-guy board for those transitioning from logs to shorter boards. The two-plus-one fin setup and hardened tail offers the more advanced surfers a board they can enjoy in hollower waves, where full-size long-boards just don't fit. Gently curving hips help this board sweep through turns like a dream, while the wider, thicker nose begs for you to cross-step forward.
This Grain Home Grown surfboard kit is manufactured in the UK by Fyne Boat Kits using locally-sourced sustainable Paulownia wood. It comes with all the components that go into the board, including:
The included manual shows how to make a simple rocker table from basic materials you can salvage or obtain locally. A rocker table helps form the board to the correct rocker.
Some things you'll need are not included in the kit, such as tools, supplies and fins, but most of it should be available locally or from Fyne Boat Kits.
These kits are designed to be built by anyone with the room to do it. Previous wood working experience is not necessary – all you need is a little patience.
