Product Description

Ilur is a seaworthy 14′ 7″ sail-and-oars boat for family day sailing, fishing and coastal cruising. With its traditional looks, compact size and generous freeboard, this is François Vivier's bestselling boat design, with nearly a thousand sets of plans sold. It has been built in many places, from the heart of the Alps to Pacific islands.

Three Ilur have been to Ile of Sein, at the extreme West of France, notorious for its dangerous waters. The Ilur proved her seaworthiness in tremendous tides and the worst sea conditions. However, the boat is not recommended for such challenging voyages.

The Ilur is intended mainly for sailing, but still rows well when the wind dies or you need to reach a narrow inlet. This clinker version of the Ilur is lighter than the original and easier to row.

The boat has a pivoting centreboard with a low-profile centreboard case that doesn't get in the way of the crew. The oars can be stowed under the floorboards to keep the cockpit clear when sailing.

There are four different sailing rigs to choose from. Ilur was originally designed with a simple standing lug sail in the Breton style (called a ‘misainier’ rig). The other rigs are a lug sloop, a lug yawl and a balanced lug with a boom.

Designed by François Vivier, a French Naval Architect with a passion for traditional sail and oars boats that can be built at home.

This is the newer, clinker-planked version of Ilur, designed in 2012 to be built from a CNC cut plywood kit. The hull shape and rigs are the same as the classic Ilur, but the build time is reduced by about 25%. The hull planking is made of 9 mm plywood. Frames are cut from 18 mm plywood with a timber trim on all visible edges. The stem and many other structural parts are also in plywood but the look of the boat interior remains very close to the original Ilur design.

Please note that this boat can't be built from the plans alone. It requires the CNC-cut plywood kit or a set of full-size templates.
