These attractive solid wooden canoe gunwales measure 25 × 19 mm (1″ × ¾″). They are also available pre-rounded to a D-section, with the flat side measuring 25 mm.
The three different wood species are also available by the metre, planed to your chosen dimensions: Ash, Douglas Fir and Sapele.
Gunwales are supplied in pieces of a maximum 2.4 m (7′ 6″) length. They should be joined and trimmed to fit the boat.
When choosing the length you need, please remember to measure along the curve of the boat – this may be significantly longer than the overall length of the boat.
A pair of canoe gunwales 18 ft long in pieces with pre-cut scarf joints for joining them to their finished 16 ft length. They can be used as either outwales or inwales; if you want both, you'll need two pairs.
A pair of canoe gunwales 20 ft long in pieces with pre-cut scarf joints for joining them to their finished 18 ft length. They can be used as either outwales or inwales; if you want both, you'll need two pairs.
Gunwales sold by the metre do not have pre-cut joints. Remember that you will need enough for both sides of the boat and to allow sufficient overlap for scarf joints (1:8 slope).
