Product Description

Morbic is a compact multipurpose boat that can be sailed, rowed and motored. As a sailing dinghy, she has a performing balanced lug rig and can carry up to three crew. Her moderate size makes her ideal for single handed sailing. For rowing or under sail and oars, she has two rowing thwarts and can carry a passenger plus two rowers. She also makes a simple and effective motorboat, with her generous transom width. A cut-out in the transom allows fitting a short-shaft outboard motor.

Her generous beam makes her a stable sailing boat and motorboat, but she still rows easily, thanks to her light weight. The hull is flat bottomed, making it easy to launch and land on beaches. She has large side buoyancy tanks for safety and to help recovery in the event of a capsize.

The Morbic 12 is a modern design, suitable for construction by first-time builders at home. The hull is clinker planked in marine plywood, giving the boat a traditional appearance while being lightweight and easily maintained.

There is a choice of four classic sailing rigs to choose from, according to how you will use the boat. The standing lug rig is the simplest and is recommended if you will use the oars frequently, because it has no boom. The lug sloop rig has the largest sail area and best sailing performance, but only allows for a single rowing thwart. All the rigs use a simple pivoting centreboard.

Designed by François Vivier, a French Naval Architect with a passion for traditional sail and oars boats that can be built at home.
