Product Description
The West River kayaks are strong fast touring boats for paddlers who prefer a multi-chine hull shape.
They cruise easily and maintain speed with little effort. With their moderate rocker and fine sterns they resist weathercocking and track straight in all sea conditions. The West River 162 and 164 share the same basic hull shape but the 164 has more freeboard and higher cambered decks to accommodate heavier and taller paddlers or to fit more gear. The 162 is lower and has a flatter aft deck for lighter paddlers. Although only 16 feet long the 162 and 164 have a 15′ 6″ waterline that is longer than some 18 foot kayaks so they show a good turn of speed.
Coaming rims are made from one piece of wood to provide a better seal with the spray deck and enhance the looks. Strength is provided by the bulkhead and deck beam.

These plans and manual contain sufficient information on the cutting of the panels to make it possible to build the boat from scratch.
