Product Description

A contemporary, elegant 15ft sliding-seat rowing boat that combines the beauty of a traditional style wooden boat with a practical and versatile layout. It can be quickly reconfigured for one rower, two rowers or one rower plus a passenger seated aft.

The Fyne Scull is suitable for rowing for pleasure, exercise or touring, having ample storage space for food supplies and personal kit. It's light overall weight and the efficient hull design make it pleasingly easy to row and steer. The boat remains well balanced with any crew configuration so it can comfortably maintain a high cruising speed.

Sculling (sliding seat rowing) is great both for exercise and making fast passages. The Fyne Scull has built-in buoyancy tanks and is quite stable so provides a good option for learning sculling as well as being rewarding and surprisingly fast for more experienced rowers.

You can easily switch from one rower to two rowers, or to one rower plus a passenger seated aft on a drop-in passenger seat. Just a few minutes are required to swap between any of the configurations.

The boat is light for its size, making it easy to handle both on and off the water. It can be lifted and carried single-handed and comfortably transported on standard roof bars. It is also relatively compact and easy to store in most car garages. The rowers' sliding seats and rigger bars are easily removed for transport and quickly installed when you are ready to launch.

Construction

The kit is designed to be simple to build without the need for previous boat-building experience or power tools. The rapid build method uses fast acting super glue to temporarily hold parts in place whilst the epoxy is applied.

It comprises an inner frame made up of longitudinal stringers and transverse bulkheads, with angled braces that foot plates are fixed to when rowing. The outer skin is made up of three shaped planks per side, each plank supplied in two parts and joined at the centre using a jigsaw join to ensure alignment.

The hull includes buoyancy tanks at the bow and stern and a rubbing strip along the gunwale. Plywood parts are strengthened in key areas using doublers, while keeping the overall weight down. There is a skeg and attachment point at the bow for a mooring or towing rope.

If you want a super-light boat you can omit the exterior glass but if your rowing grounds have rocks, then adding the glass to the outside increases durability for a slight weight penalty.
