Product Description

This ever popular v-bottom pram dinghy is perfect as a tender, a pond utility boat or for just messing about in.

We finished this boat last winter – launched in Nov. We are based at a Sailing Centre where this boat is the smallest regular sailing craft out on the water.

The Elterwater Pram is of a classic design with three buoyant compartments forming the seats. The v-shaped hull gives it superior tracking compared to flat-bottomed prams.

This boat is ideal for fishing or simply messing about on rivers and lakes. The epoxy makes it a low maintenance vessel where the paint is largely cosmetic. It can be roughly treated as a work boat or lovingly cosseted as a picnic pleasure craft. This is an ideal first boat for children and it can be ‘improved’ over the years as the children's taste for adventure changes.

This pram is designed to get out on the water quickly. It is light enough to be car topped and short enough to be carried whilst towing a caravan. Being light, this boat is easily towed behind a larger vessel for use in harbours – for ferrying equipment or just for fun. If you have problems with flooding, this little boat can be stored vertically in a small area ready for when it is needed.

The standard kit is a rowing boat kit, which can be converted for sailing by the addition of the sailing upgrade to become an able sailer using an unstayed mast. This upgrade can be made years after the boat was first built.

The kit includes:

What else do I need?

A great kit, fun to make, resulting in a bonny boat and the prospect of many hours of more fun to come.

Study manual

This is intended for pre-build study or to help with the decision to purchase. Reading this manual will help you decide whether or not you can build the boat. It is the manual that accompanies the kits. It describes all of the techniques that will be used during the building and also a step by step guide to construction. Scale drawings are used throughout as well as photographs of critical jobs.

If, later, you decide to purchase the kit the cost of this printed manual will be deducted from the kit price.

This manual does not contain plans of the panels with the cutting instructions so it is not possible to build the boat from scratch using only this manual.

PDF study manual

An electronic version of the 29 page study manual in PDF format that can be viewed using Adobe Reader. After credit card authorisation the file will be sent to the email address put on the order form. Please note that this file cannot be printed.

Sailing upgrade

This option can be retrospectively fitted and it turns the Pram hull into an able sailing boat. Please note that the base kit (or a completed hull) is needed in addition to the sailing upgrade.

Please note that several of the photographs show custom rigs that have been installed by our customers. The standard rig we supply is the lug rig with wooden spars.

The upgrade includes:

The sailing upgrade does not include the warp although we can supply it.
